INTRICACIES OF LIFE

The intricacies of our life and the emotions we feel are embedded within our cells. These intricate feelings and subtle emotional reactions are simply indescribable. There exist extraordinarily broad terms that attempt to capture universally experienced feelings, however, their encapsulation only goes so far. Not every feeling of nostalgia is the same, not every feeling of guilt is the same, not every feeling of loneliness is the same.

Additionally, it can never be entirely comprehended, especially externally, the events and sequences that led a person to become who they are. Although it can be conceded that correlations can be made between significant events and a person’s current emotional reality, there remains an inability of complete comprehension regarding the factors and intricacies of their existence. In our current socio-political climate, there is becoming an increasingly urgent need for a response to this dilemma.

As evidenced above, complete comprehension is impossible, therefore, consciousness must follow. We must be conscious in the fact these incredibly complex and undefinable intricacies are implicit within everyone’s life. Ironically, there is a word that describes this phenomenon…it is sonder. Meaning, “the realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own”. This realisation needs to become engrained within our consciousness. It is the most effective vehicle to utilise in our collective journey towards empathy.

Thank You Mr. Lambert.
