HYPOCRISY OF THE WEST

The hypocrisy of the West is a concept so well-established amongst politically conscious individuals that it has almost become irrefutable. This hypocrisy has been evidenced through numerous examples of ostensibly reasoned foreign military interventions, carefully conducted media portrayal of minority groups and internal scandals. Thus, posing the question, as a contemporary society that values expressive and informative freedoms above all else, why is the concept of Western hypocrisy so readily forgotten and seldom discussed?

It is almost as if, in the context of Western political decisions, The Boy Who Cried Wolf tale is not coming to fruition. No matter how many foreign military interventions, under the guise of humanitarianism, are proven to be for misleading and corrupt objectives, the backlash is short-lived and fleeting, whilst the next intervention is oftentimes supported. When will collective society, not only identify the fear-mongering strategies employed by the Government, but also have the courage or understand the importance to harshly scrutinise it?

The children indiscriminately killed or maimed through the U.S intervention in Afghanistan (approximately 33, 000) are no different to your child here named Oliver or Charlotte. No difference. Once this principle of empathy is realised and comprehended, there will be more outrage regarding the loss of foreign lives and subsequently, more resistance for arbitrary military intervention, especially in circumstances where gluttony and corruption are compellers of the objective. As jaded as society has become regarding politics, the reality is, decisions occur through a bottom-up system.

Therefore, once comprehension and subsequent unrest begins within collective society, Government decisions and policy will follow.
